Young Adults are an integral part of the Genesis Club. They are present in every unit and take part in all work of the Clubhouse. They receive the same supports as all clubhouse members; from education and employment, to outreach and peer support. Genesis Club defines our young adult members as those 18-25 years of age.
Genesis Club provides support for young adults in the form of outreach, engagement in the work-ordered day, and by providing an inclusive and active environment within the club.
To help us achieve that goal we have a weekly Young Adult Committee Meeting (Tuesdays at 11:00 am) in which we discuss topics pertinent to young adults within the Clubhouse. Young adult members and staff from every unit are invited to attend this meeting. These topics may include: Young Adult Outreach, Young Adults Connecting in Units, Young Adults in New Member Orientation, International Training, and Organizing a Young Adult Lunch. After the meeting, the representatives return to their units to share what was discussed.
TAPS
Genesis Club, working with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health has developed the Transitional Age Peer Support initiative aka TAPS. TAPS is designed for young adults ages 18-25 and engages identified late teens and young adults in quality employment and education supports through Genesis Club; as well as with other services in the Worcester community that support their recovery goals. During a period of intensive engagement and connection lasting up to 120 days, teams of staff and members (peers) from Genesis Club meet with these individuals several times a week to build relationships, identify and discuss goals and connect with services and community resources that assist in each individuals goals.
Goals may include learning and using public transportation, enrolling in GED or post-secondary education, obtaining employment, finding adult clinical service providers, applying for SSI or SSDI, wellness and even strengthening social ties.
TRAINING
Genesis Club is an international training base for ICCD Clubhouses. Along with our two and three week comprehensive trainings we also offer a one week Young Adult training track on engaging Young Adults in the clubhouse.
